Products I Regret Purchasing - Volume 1

Wednesday, 2 July 2014

I recently asked my followers if they would be interested in reading a blog post featuring the products that I regret buying. The response was overwhelming so obviously I thought it only fair that I would share some of my regretful purchases before I dispose of them; never to use again!

Boring stuff: This post is based on my personal opinion and experiences with these products. Individual results and opinions will vary.

Manicare Glass Perfume Atomiser.
Manicare Glass Perfume Atomiser.

I love perfume a lot and I like to carry it around with me everywhere so I can re-apply it at anytime.

This atomiser was more than disappointing! It is easy to fill, and easy to empty, as in it leaks everywhere. I was heartbroken when I went to get it out of my handbag a couple days after filling it with my beloved Chloe de Roses perfume to find it empty.

RRP $11.99 AUD.

E.L.F Lengthening & Defining Mascara.
E.L.F Lengthening & Defining Mascara.

This has got to be the worst mascara I have used in my life. It was super runny and wet and applies in such a way that it looks like I have fewer lashes after application than I had before putting anything on.

I can't help but wonder, did I just get a dodgy one? Because I can't imagine a cosmetic brand releasing a mascara like this, it just seems a little strange to me.

RRP $3.00 AUD

Covergirl Outlast Stay Fabulous 3-in-1 Foundation.
Covergirl Outlast Stay Fabulous 3-in-1 Foundation.
I can almost hear the hissing and gasps as I write this. I really liked this foundation when I first got it, but not anymore. I have grown out of love with this. It oxidises into a very orange tone on my face throughout the day and the cakey finish just doesn't do it for me. The colour range available is also pretty miserable and I went as far as buying two shades to mix together in the hope of achieving a decent colour. No luck for me unfortunately.

I just don't get the hype around this foundation. I would choose my Revlon Colorstay as a drugstore alternative to this any day.

RRP $19.95 AUD (30ml).

Joico Joiwhip Firm-Hold Design Foam.
Joico Joiwhip Firm-Hold Design Foam.
I rely on mousse to hold my curls when I use my curling wand and provide me with amazing bouncy volume. This however, provided me with hair that I can only describe as a flop.

I was recommended this product at a hair salon and didn't hesitate to buy it as I usually find that Joico satisfies my hair care and styling needs, this sadly did not. I tried it on a number of occasions hoping that it would start to perform or perhaps that I wasn't using enough.  Nothing changed. The Joico mousse just didn't hold a curl or do anything that I could notice if I am brutally honest.

RRP $25.95 AUD (300ml).

  1. I've got the elf mascara and believe you must have got the dodgy one, whilst its a wetter mascara mine seemed to apply quite well! and I've got the foundation too whilst mine doesn't colour through the day it just doesn't do it for me, I've been using instead the Maybelline dream matte mousse and have loved it ever since http://maybemayhemmakeup.blogspot.com.au/

  2. I think the Covergirl Outlast foundation oxidized on me as well! :/ It's a shame you didn't like it.

  3. The Covergirl foundation was a massive let down for me too... and I bought two when Priceline had some deal on. Far too cakey and sunk into my pores :(

  4. The sale at Priceline led me to buying two as well. I feel your pain!

  5. Maybe one day if I am feeling forgiving I will try another mascara. I am glad I am not the only one that doesn't like the Covergirl foundation. I haven't ever heard of any bad reviews so I was ready to cop it. xox

  6. Oh no! It is so annoying. I would have a great match in the morning, but by the early afternoon I looked so orange :-(
