What To Do When You Can't Get Your Nail Polish To Open

Sunday, 27 October 2013

Gone to use your nail polish and the lid wont twist or budge in the slightest? I'm here to help!

Like anything, prevention is better than a cure. This involves cleaning your bottle prior to sealing it after you have painted your nails and making sure the lid is closed properly.

Prevention
I like to put nail polish remover on a cotton pad and wipe it over and around the neck of the bottle (where the lid screws on) to ensure that my nail polish seals properly and doesn't leak.

Too late for prevention and need a cure?
Relax! This is an easy fix!

What you need:
  • Your nail polish that requires opening.
  • A kettle.
  • A mug.

What to do:
1. Boil the kettle.
2. Take your mug and fill with boiled water.

3. Dip the polish into the hot water submerging the lid a little as to melt the polish that is stopping the lid from budging.  Hold it there for 10-15 seconds.

4. Remove the bottle. Use something protective such as a paper towel or tea towel to hold the bottle (to absorb heat) and twist the bottle open. Voila!

I know plenty of you will be relived that you can now open those pesky nail polish bottles you may have once upon a time disposed of.

Note: all opinions are my own.
Always be careful when working with boiling water.
