DIY Lip Scrub

Friday, 18 October 2013

No matter how pretty the shade of lipstick is you're wearing, it's never going to look good on dry chapped lips! Whip up this tried and tested recipe for you very own do-it-yourself lip scrub and wear your brightest lipstick with pride!

What you will need:

  1. A bowl for mixing.
  2. 1 x Tbsp of cold pressed or organic coconut oil.
  3. 1 x Tbsp of white sugar (or brown if you prefer). I like white because it it coarser.
  4. 1 x Tbsp of honey (any kind).
  5. A spoon for mixing.
  6. Metric spoons for measuring.
  7. A container for storage (I used a small plastic salad dressing container).

Process:
Pop the coconut oil and honey in the small mixing bowl and stir until all the lumps of coconut oil are gone.

Add the sugar and mix until ingredients are all combined.

Lastly, scoop your lip exfoliation mix into the small plastic container.

Store in fridge for up to a couple of weeks. Use your common sense though; if it changes in appearance or smell obviously don't use it, discard it and make a new batch.

Done! It's that easy. Ta-da!

Exfoliation process:

  1. Simply pop a small amount of the lip scrub and rub it gently in small circular motions. I also like to then rub my lips together and move them back and forward to aid the process.
  2. Lick the products off your lips or use a washcloth to remove left over product.
  3. Apply a lip balm or lip conditioner.

Ingredient benefits:
Honey: antibacterial and healing.
Coconut oil: contains vitamin E and fatty acids that hydrate and nourish.
Sugar: Acts as a natural exfoliant.

Who will be trying this? I would love to know how you go!
